Returned from Colorado

back in troy, boat art, kombucha, crops, TBR, and...

as always, check out breathingplanet on flickr. i seem to do much better at photoblogging than blahhhging proper.

I am back in Troy after 11 or so days out of town. Vickie and I took the Amtrak train from Albany to Pittsburgh... then Pittsburgh to Chicago... then Chicago to Denver. On the way back, we skipped Pittsburgh. Riding the train on such a long trip is like a time-warp experience. You sleep when you want and need to, and after 2.5 days, one loses track of time, to emerge in a bit of a fog. Our trip to Colorado took us to a wedding on a farm outside of Boulder. We borrowed bikes and did a lot of riding around as well as a hike in Rocky Mt. National Park. In Denver, we ran into Flux, who was parked in the Mobile Broadcast News bus in an undisclosed location. It was my first time to check out the bus - a veggie oil-fueled internet broadcast media vehicle - cool! Flux was in town with his travelling partner, Mary Kate preparing for the DNC and the RNC, to follow. I wish I was able to put the time into being at the DNC & RNC this year. I think it is important to make a show on the streets, but alas, I have had the summer to work on projects, and now I have a job starting at the the community college and need to make some money. Luckily folks like sumedia and mobile broadcast news, will bringing the word from the streets to our screens. sorry y'all... wish i was there!!

Kombucha - yea.. i started making kombucha!... ok. we did. vickie is on board, but she is maybe a little more picky about taste than me. the first batch, which brewed while we were away is a little vinegary. if you dont know much about kombucha... google that shit.

Garden - is producing more vegetables than i thought! except for squash.. only 2 squash so far. we will see if that changes. the plnats are huge and lots of flowers... maybe not enough bees. we need to put more other flowers near them next year..?? but beans, tons of beans peppers, tomatoes, cape gooseberries, collards, kale, little potatoes, .... and we did more plantig on saturday for a fall harvest - beets, more collards, and mustard greens.

Bike rescue. TBR is kickin. Today there was tall-bike manufacturing, as well as bikes donated. bikes adopted, and bikes fixed.

Troy art seen -The Switchback Seas folks launched the other nite and are headed for NYC. I went to see the first show here in Troy. The rafts are inspiring and impressive... the performance felt a little contrived... as we walked away at the end of the nite, someone made a comment... "we knew the hipsters were coming, but we didnt know they were coming by sea". hehe. my translation or version would be that somehow the anarcho-utopian narrative of riding the river on homemade rafts is turned into a hipster-playground-spectacle, when it is put in the context of art. yet another exampe of why the artworld sucks just as much as capitalism... but damn... those are some cool boats. i have been thinking of making a floating raft garden next summer, but now its like "oh yea, thats like those artsy kids from New York City did, right?" uh yea. anyways. hopefully seeing DIY rafts, and anarcho-utopian visions, in the form of hipster performance art didnt ruin it for the rest of us. the saving grace is that

I dont know what else to blahhg about. ovr & out.
