Ariel Dorfman & Nick Morgan

There's not much of a connection between Nick Morgan and Ariel Dorfman, I suppose. The connection here is that I saw the film, A Promise to the Dead - a bio pic of sorts - about The 1973 coup in Chile and Ariel Dorfman, specifically at the Sanctuary for Independent Media. I learned a lot from this film. Its as if the recent history of Latin America does not exist in US public schools... then again, its hard to think of one thing i actually learned in high school. After seeing the film, I think it's one of the most important political eras and/or progressions to understand and think about with respect to protofascism and the real threat of a police state in this country.   Anyways. the connection.....

Rustbelt Radio

As I am crossing the state of Pennsylvania headed for Colorado on the train, my friend, fellow outlaw bicyclist, and media activist, Andalusia is headed east in PA - bound for Philly where she will work with the amazing Prometheus Radio Project

Andalusia is also a co-founder of Rustbelt Radio , which is an amazing asset to the Western PA mediascape. Check out her last episode, which highlights the best of the pieces they have passionately produced over the past four years.

School Sucks

walk on water bookI am currently reading Derrick Jensen's Walking On Water, and it's got me all fired up about how much our ideas of education affect the shape of the system which we struggle against.

Our ideas of school and what school is supposed to do were founded on the notion that the role of public schooling is to create a society of subservient drones.

Sometimes it is hard to know what to fight for. Sometimes it feels like bringing it all down is the only option.

Speaking of Farming

nippleI have been doing a little research and a lot of dreaming about spending more time growing food and less time commuting (yes,i commute by bike), while maintaining that media activism and education are an overarching social issue where i can contribute positively.

Is this a possible reality? Stay tuned to my life in 2007 (and blog) to find out.
