what has the end of the world come to?!
what has the end of the world come to?!
seems like the NYPD are still at with the bullshit anti-cyclist tactics in nyc... very intently targeting videographers these days. as the police state further reveals its apparati, those of us media activists who make it our business to document such things will continue to be persecuted. here's the latest from Glass bead. short version here. long version below:
I think we need some of these kinds of projects to beautify the hillside neighborhood... more importantly, the projects are traffic calming devices and ring the community together around a creative purpose.
... of an article I want to write. It's a case study of sorts. When I try to step back from this whole Wafaa Bilal censorship at RPI/Republican Protest/Sanctuary closed by the city story there are multiple stories... overarching narratives and inner threads. But the one I am thinking about now is about Indymedia, web2.0, and media activism. Having been part of a few large Indymedia mobilizations, it was (and still is) exhilerating to feel the media activism community emerge from winter time with passion - stepping up to support Wafaa Bilal and document his situation, condemn RPI for its failures as an institution of higher education, support the Sanctuary for Indpendent Media, and then hold the city accountable for its corruption and abuse of codes enforcement.
some footage shot today by Jim Finn:
RPI - where I currently teach as adjunct arts faculty - has oficially banned the Iraqi artist, Wafaa Bilal's exhibition after its opening on Wed. (Mar. 5, 2008) night. It seems like a pretty stupid move, but in a sense is not surprising given the funding and support that RPI receives from the military, and its pivotal role in the military-industrial complex. It has sparked a bit of an outrage. If you want to write to the president to voice your opinion, go ahead.... president@rpi.edu
